Abstract : We have been in the research evaluation of the technical aspects of the use of a biological reactor for removing nitrates from drinking water contaminated with 250 mg nitrate / liter. It was also a criterion for the design and operation of the system. Were also study the effect of oxygen concentration, the concentration of nutrients. And a source of carbon on the performance of the treatment. To achieve the objectives of the research was to build and operate an experimental reactor in the coefficient of environmental engineering for more than 8 months. The results of this study showed that this method is effective in the treatment of high-nitrate water to the permitted level. Has achieved its efficient handling of 95-97% and when the reactor to carry rate of nitrogen, 0.242 kg N / m 3 per day and the use of carbon to nitrogen ratio of $ 0.93 from methanol. The study showed that the reactor should be less nitrate load of 0.45 kg / N / m 3 per day in order to reduce the concentration of nitrates in the water of 520 mg / l to the extent permitted Alitrat and Alnatren in drinking water. The results showed that both the concentration of phosphorus and oxygen in the reactor does not affect the efficiency and processing performance. When comparing Almithal, ethanol and acetic acid as a source of carbon to the bioremediation of nitrate ethanol gave the best results as well as the use of Almithal gave good results for reducing the concentration of nitrate, however, it was noted there is a problem when the concentration of nitrate used as a source of carbon. The results of the study showed also that the use of this method in the treatment of high nitrate water requires additional treatment to remove carbon and suspended solids from the surplus of treatment (such as using activated carbon filtration, ventilation and disinfection) in order to use water for drinking purposes.
