Abstract : Hapitatis C virus (HCV) is the leading cause of chronic liver disease worldwide. Hapitatis C virus (HCV) causes parenteral-transmitted acute hepatitis, chronic active hepatitis, cirrhosis, and possible liver cancer. Immunogenetic factors may play a role in determining the susceptibility of an individual to viral infection. Chemokines or chemotactic cyto-kines are small protein molecules produced by a variety of cells and are an important component of the inflammatory process. Chemokine receptors are cell surface proteins that bind small peptides called chemokines. Some chemokine receptors have a role in infectious disease susceptibility or pathogenesis. One of them is CCR5, CCR5 promotor polymorphisms are known to be associated with HIV infection. A 32-base pair deletion of the CCR5 gene (CCR5 Δ32) protects against HIV infection because the frame shift leads to a truncated protein not expressed on the cell surface. CCR5 Δ32 also delays progression in heterozygous HIV-infected patients and improves responses to antiretroviral therapy. Another polymorphism at base pair 59029 in the CCR5 promotor was detected which has a role in HIV progression. Recent studies had showed a correlation between HCV disease and these polymorphisms. The aim of the project is to investigate these polymorphisms genotype distribution in Hepatitis C virus none treated patients and treated patients, and whether it affects the progression of HCV disease.
