Abstract : Optical mineralogy is considered one of the important branch of geology which has becomes a standard requirement for the students of the earth sciences. It is an essential prerequisite for the study of crystallography, crystal chemistry and petrography of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. A general survey reveals that the Arabic library, in general, and those in Saudi Arabia have great scarcity of scientific references and books that have been written in Arabic language especially in the optical mineralogy. Due to the disability of the Arabic students to easily acquaint with knowledge and information written in a language other than the Arabic, and in turn incorrect understanding of the scientific subjects. So it becomes necessary to make great efforts to prepare the scientific materials of the optic mineralogy in Arabic language. Accordingly, the present research project will contribute more simplified information and scientific material in Arabic language which we hope to be useful and assist the students in Arab world. The optical mineralogy text will encompasses about nine chapters deal with the followings: study of the elementary concept of light, the polarized microscope and functions of its parts, preparation of mineral thin sections, optical properties of uniaxial and biaxial minerals, the convergent polarized light, interference figures and optic signs of both uniaxial and biaxial minerals and finally the principle study of ore microscopy.
